Dev Logs

(Sep 6) Updates

Hello everyone! You're probably here because you've gotten a notification of a new dev log entry for the first time. This is the site's new dev log page, which can always be found through the sidebar on the news page, and serves to hold all development-related updates for Planet Poltera. I'm Min (wyrmbloods), your site resident coder and maintainer, and I plan to use these logs as a way to notify users of code-related updates to the site as well as obtain feedback. You may occasionally see other staff members use these logs as well to report on various site or ARPG-related changes.

By default, users have on-site dev log notifications enabled, but if you'd like to disable them you can do so on your account settings page.

My current updates are as follows:

  • Back around August 27th, I pushed an update to the site that allows users to select an alternative body font, Nunito (sans-serif), on their account settings page, for those who may struggle with the default monospace font the site uses for its body text. I am open to other suggestions for font additions as well for legibility, as I understand some users may have different preferences in terms of serif/sans-serif, and if you have a suggestion you are free to comment it on this dev log. However, please remember that the suggested font must be free-to-use commercially, so I suggest using sites like Google Fonts or Font Squirrel for your recommendations.
  • I have been running lint and format commands on the site's entire code in anticipation for an upcoming update. All these commands do is re-format code files to be stylistically consistent and well-organized, so it shouldn't be affecting any sort of site functionality, but if you notice anything going awry anywhere on the site, please either comment on this dev log or make a report in the Discord.
  • I am open to suggestions of alternative themes for the site. We currently have two - the default and the matte versions - but I'm sure users may appreciate other themes and levels of contrast to choose from. If you suggest an alternative theme, you may either give me colour(s) or a general idea (i.e. blues, something with a light background, etc) or you may specify a specific colour scheme (i.e. solarized). Based on suggestions, I will see what alternatives I can style in my free time.
  • Lastly, I am preparing to update the site to v3. (Don't trust the footer credit that says "Planet Poltera v3.0.0"; that's because I was keeping this site on the development branch, but it was last updated like...16 months ago...and v3, while still being adjusted, was initially released as a branch in December 2023.) This is bound to be a bit of a breaking change, as it's a major update that also bumps up the version of the code framework Lorekeeper operates on (which brings issues such as deprecated/missing functions, changes to syntax, and so forth) and is bound to come with some little bugs here and there. The good news is that, as long as these bugs are reported, I can iron these out fairly easily. My current plan is to do the v3 update sometime within this month - so before October - and I will make a dev log entry for when I finally do so.

That's all for now. As always if you run into any issues you can report it in the Discord. Thanks for reading, and hope you all have a great weekend!
