Often described as the seedy underbelly of Poltera, the nation of Shadia is not quite the lawless land that many claim it to be. Ruled by a secretive Royal that many lifetime citizens never even get the chance to see, many things about Shadia’s government and ruling style remain unknown. You don’t want to mess with those who call Shadia their home. Trust in these lands is hard to come by, but incredibly easy to lose.

Climate

Shadia itself is a heavily forested land, primarily consisting of tall pines and thick foliage. Cities and towns are often built around these forests, hidden within, only made known by the dim light of the lanterns and torches that illuminate the dark forest paths. The temperatures here are incredibly cold, winters harsh and unforgiving, the ground littered with snow and the sky almost completely dark.

For those who love to stargaze, Shadia may not be the nation for you. Frequently overcast, the people here are used to surviving within what feels like an almost everlasting darkness.

Culture

One of the most well-known aspects of Shadia’s legacy is the creation and origins of the infamous Necronet, home to thousands of different servers. No one knows who the creator of this network may be, nor have they figured out where in all of Shadia they exist, but it is known that they must be incredibly intelligent to have been able to construct such a complex and powerful system.

Unlike in many other nations, Necronet is not illegal in Shadia, though that does not mean it is easy to access. Some bots may spend their entire lives trying to find a way to weasel into the software, only to find themselves inexplicably blocked off. In contrast, Shade VPN, the biggest VPN network in all of Poltera, was created within Shadia as well.

While it is true that there is quite a bit of leniency to be seen when it comes to rule-breaking, this does not mean that the Guardians here are to be taken any less seriously than those from other nations. They are incredibly well-versed in the art of assassination, incredibly stealthy, and said to have ears all over Poltera. These Guardians are known to be slightly smaller in stature than most, though what they lack in sheer power, they are said to make up for in their tact and critical-thinking skills. Masters of disguise, they may blend right into the citizens around them... Best to keep your guard up, lest you learn first-hand just how ruthless these Guardians can be.

It’s not just the Guardians who you should look out for either. Shadia is home to Poltera’s biggest assassin ring, said to take any job offered to them, no questions asked . . . as long as you have an ungodly amount of bot-coin to supply, that is. In fact, for the right price, you can get away with just about anything.

The primary magic types in Shadia are darkness and poison. These magic-wielders are said to be incredibly dangerous, best to avoid them altogether. There is no telling just what your fate may be if you don’t.

Overall, there is very little in the ways of tourism in Shadia. The people here aren’t very welcoming to outsiders, though they do hold a certain level of hospitality (if you have bot-coin to supply and are mindful to watch your tone). Their food culture can be most similarly compared to that of a Greek/Mediterranean style. If you do decide to visit, there are plenty of local taverns and restaurants tucked away amongst the surrounding alleyways and inns!
